Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL is a program that recognizes skills, knowledge, and experience gained by you.These skills could have been acquired by working, learning or even volunteering. RPL gives credits for formal, non-formal and informal learning obtained in Australia or overseas. Firstly, you will be graded in ‘units of competency’. Then these units will help you obtain a formally recognized qualification. Finally, this qualification can open doors to job opportunities anywhere in Australia! RPL also gives students credit points. Students can use these credit points and finish their courses faster.

What is formal, non- formal and informal learning?

FORMAL LEARNING

“Formal learning is the learning that takes place through a structured program of learning that leads the
full or partial achievement of an officially accredited qualification.”(AQF, second edition, January 2013)

NON-FORMAL LEARNING

“Non-formal learning refers to learning that takes place through a structured program of learning but
does not lead to an officially accredited qualification.”(AQF, second edition, January 2013)

INFORMAL LEARNING

“Informal learning is learning gained through work, social, family, hobby or leisure activities and
experiences. Unlike formal or non-formal learning, informal learning is not organised or externally
